How we help our clients with project management & CapEx applications
In the ever-evolving landscape of engineering projects, we take pride in our innovative and effective approach to project management. This meticulously designed methodology works in tandem with the PRINCE2, including much of the terminology, to help simplify and standardise the starting up a project process. It not only helps our engineering clients craft strategic capital expenditure (CapEx) plans but also ensures an efficient and successful project delivery.
This is our 6-stage project management process:
- Ideas
The journey begins with the ‘Ideas’ stage, where feasibility studies and business case development take centre stage. Our team, led by a dedicated project manager, meticulously assess the project’s viability and identify potential risks. The project manager plays a pivotal role in creating the project’s filing structure, filling out a comprehensive project brief, and developing a process map to record key points. This initial phase lays the foundation for a well-informed decision-making process. - Drafts
With a solid understanding of the project’s viability, we move to the ‘Drafts’ stage. Here, the project team is assembled, and a detailed project plan is crafted. A clear definition of stakeholder roles and responsibilities is crucial for success. Various documents, including the User Requirement Specification (URS), Budget Tracker, Data Analysis, and Gantt Charts, are meticulously curated within the file structure. This phase ensures that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of project objectives and deliverables. - Proposals
The ‘Proposals’ stage acts as a checkpoint for the business to decide on project execution. Armed with a well-defined project plan, including timelines and budget, the project manager delivers a concise Capital Expenditure Programme or similar document summarising information collected during the Drafts phase. This stage accelerates the decision-making process and sets the foundation for the next phase. - Approved
With the green light, the project enters the ‘Approved’ stage. Now armed with an allocated budget and timeline, the project must progress against defined objectives and deliverables. The project manager takes charge, ensuring accountability of the goals set during project sign-off. This involves tracking and reporting on the budget and timeline, monitoring health and safety requirements, and organising contractor management. Familiarity with relevant health and safety documentation, such as Pre-Delivery Inspection, Construction Phase Plan, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements, is essential. - Complete
The ‘Complete’ stage marks the installation and commissioning of the project. The project manager oversees the final steps, culminating in the handover to the business sponsor. A comprehensive closing document, encompassing equipment information, a financial review, and a lessons log, is provided. This phase ensures the successful realisation of project goals. - Archive
Acknowledging the circular nature of project work, the ‘Archive’ stage ensures that any completed or discontinued project is stored for future reference. This methodology recognises that previous work often provides valuable insights into new ideas, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
In conclusion, our project management methodology is a roadmap for success, guiding our clients from project conception to completion. With a focus on strategic CapEx planning and efficient processes, we ensure that each stage of the project lifecycle contributes to overall success and client satisfaction.
